Get ready to run, Barrie!
Sunday, June 7th, Patrick Brown will host his fifth annual Barrie Waterfront Half Marathon in support of a wide variety of local organizations, including, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (Cardiac Care Unit), Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), the Autism Society (Ontario Chapter), Talk is Free Theatre (TIFT), Gilda’s Club (Simcoe Muskoka), and the David Busby Street Centre. This year’s race will also support the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB), Alzheimer’s Society (Simcoe County), and the YMCA (Simcoe Muskoka).
Last year’s race saw over 1,200 runners take to Barrie’s lakeshore path raising over $50,000. Since 2011 the Barrie Half Marathon has raised more than $170,000 for local charities. In addition to supporting important services in our community, the race promotes a healthy, active lifestyle through its 5k, 10k, and half marathon routes. This premier event attracts participants from across Ontario.
In Simcoe Muskoka there are over 20,000 people living with heart disease, almost 90,000 smokers, another 90,000 people who are obese, and over 100,000 people who report high stress in their lives. Each of our local charities for the 2015 race promotes exercise, good health and balanced living through valued programs offered to our community.
